Since when...

...did they start naming natural disasters?!?
Cyclone Phyan..Hurricane Katrina.. Hurricane Ike.. Hurricane Jimena..Typhoon Morakot!!
Who on earth names them?! Funny naming business it is!!

:) The naming convention is there, so that they can be part of our children's history lessons :) Basically, to refer to a patricular event, rather than having to specify the year, place etc for future reference I guess

Who names them? No idea :) But how they name it - I came across this answer, not sure of its authenticity though "The first hurricane of the year is a girl name that starts with an a. then a boy name with a b. then a girl name with c. then it went to Katrina. Then when a new year starts, they start over."
